Climate Action Report

In 2022, the Village Board adopted the Climate Action Report aiming to reduce emissions by 45% by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The report, a result of extensive analysis by the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Ad Hoc Working Group, outlines key objectives:

  • Convert 100% of electricity to renewable sources by 2030.
  • Reduce transportation emissions by 55% by 2030.
  • Decrease waste emissions by 66% by 2030.

The report establishes a greenhouse gas emissions baseline and sets high-level objectives to obtain the Village Board’s established greenhouse gas mitigation goals. Implementation strategies, resiliency, and adaptation plans are organized into focus areas like energy, transportation, waste, and ecosystem, and are detailed in the report. Purpose

 By creating a clear course of action so that everyone has a role in creating and achieving climate and sustainability goals, the Report can help drive and coordinate local efforts toward a reduction in GHG emissions of 45% by 2030 compared to the 2017 baseline year.
