The Village of Deerfield and the Deerfield Police Department issue oversized permits for weight, length, width, and height to loads that are indivisible. The two permits, which are available, include:

Single Trip


This permit allows for one trip to or from the desired location within Deerfield. The move can be made within 7 calendar days excluding Saturdays after Noon and Sundays. See Village of Deerfield Fee schedule or Oxcart Permits. 

Round Trip

This permit allows for one trip to and from the desired location within Deerfield. The move can be made within 14 calendar days excluding Saturdays after Noon and Sundays. See Village of Deerfield Fee schedule or Oxcart Permits

Special Notes


  1. The permit application must be submitted to Oxcart Permits. The Police Department is allowed 3-5 days to process the permit.
  2. The Police Department reserves the right to deny any permits. Permits, which are granted, will be returned to the requesting company via Oxcart Permits.
  3. The completed permit MUST be with the vehicle described in the permit at all times while operating on the streets within the Village and shall be exhibited upon demand to any enforcement officer. {Village Ord. 22-96A(e)}
  4. It is the duty of the permittee to read and familiarize himself/herself with the permit provisions upon receipt. Undertaking of the permit move is deemed conclusive evidence of acceptance of the permit. The Police Department sends out statements monthly to Companies with approved accounts. No permits will be issued to companies with accounts that are more than 60 days past due.

Read Your Permit

If you find the permit does not cover the move, is incorrect or in error, contact the Deerfield Police Department prior to starting the move. Undertaking the move is prima facie evidence of acceptance of the permit.


Scope

This permit is valid for moves on highways under the jurisdiction of the Village of Deerfield only. This permit grants no authority over highways contiguous to Village streets maintained by other government bodies or private property owners.  

Bridges

All structures on Village highways, whether posted or listed on the Village Truck Route Map, may not be crossed unless the movement is within the legal weight limit of that bridge. If the weight limit is not specified, the bridge shall be considered legal weight only.

No Truck Route

Routes marked in red on the Village Truck Route Map may not be traveled upon without first obtaining permission from the Truck Enforcement Unit of the Deerfield Police Department.

Times/Dates

This permit is valid from the time/date issued until the same time on the date of expiration. Moves are restricted from ½ hour after sunset until ½ hour before sunrise, Central Standard Time.  Moves are prohibited on New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

Permit Holder

This permit is non-transferable to another vehicle, and is only valid for the specified vehicle. The permit and this form must be carried at all times in the vehicle during permit moves. The permit may be inspected at any time by any police officer, and confiscated if a violation has occurred.

Weight/Size

Weight and size limits listed on the permit, which are governed by the permit category under Village Ordinance, may not be exceeded. Any vehicle exceeding weight limits are subject to arrest for the excess weight.  Any size violations are subject to arrest also.

Insurance/Indemnification

Permit holders are responsible to provide the Truck Enforcement Unit of the Deerfield Police Department valid insurance/indemnification policies in the amount of $1,000,000. Failure to update the Department with a valid policy will render the permit invalid.


Due Care

All permit holders are expected to use due care and caution while operating under the authority of this permit. This includes driving at safe speeds and making safe maneuvers in an effort to protect life and property. At any time a situation arises where the operator deems conditions are unsafe to further continue the movement, he shall stop and contact the Deerfield Police Department immediately for assistance. All vehicles must meet all equipment and safety regulations as required by the Illinois Vehicle Code and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Lighting/Flags/Signs

All permit loads must meet the provision standards set forth in Illinois Department of Transportation form OPER 993 or the AASHTO Phase 2 guidelines, whichever is less restrictive.

Special Restrictions

No trucks with 4 or more axles permitted on Kates Road Bridge. No trucks on Deerfield Road having a Class F, or greater registration unless via permit. No Trucks over 12’ on Deerfield Road between Robert York and Chestnut Street.
