Building & Code Enforcement Division
Overview
The Building and Code Enforcement Division of the Community Development Department ensures timely review and issuance of permits, inspection services and uniform enforcement of all Village ordinances, codes and regulations relating to new construction of buildings and structures including improvements and repair, alteration and demolition of existing buildings and structures.
NOTICE - If you are registering for multiple trades, we encourage you to submit one bond listing all trades for which you are registering.
- The following contractors will be required to complete the online registration process:
- General Contractor
- Signed $20,000.00 surety bond
- $100.00 payment
- Electrical Contractor
- Copy of current electrical license
- Signed $20,000.00 surety bond
- $100.00 payment
- Plumbing Contractor
- Copy of 055 IDPH plumber’s license
- Copy of 058 IDPH plumber’s license
- Irrigation Contractor
- Copy of 060 IDPH plumber’s license
- Copy state cross-connect license
- $100.00 payment
- Roofing Contractor
- Copy of current State of Illinois roofing license
- Signed $20,000.00 surety bond
- $100.00 payment
- Excavation Contractor
- Signed $20,000.00 surety bond
- $100.00 payment
- Concrete Contractor
- Signed $20,000.00 surety bond
- $100.00 payment
- Homeowner
- Permitted to work in the following trades: plumbing, roofing, electrical, general, concrete, excavation
- Not permitted to work on irrigation RPZ (backflow prevention)

International Code Rules
Code Update
Be Advised: In January of 2026 the Village of Deerfield is expected to adopt the following codes:
- International Building Code (2024 edition)
- International Residential Code (2024 edition)
- International Mechanical Code (2024 edition)
- International Fire Code (2024 edition)
- International Swimming Pool & Spa Code (2024 edition)
- International Fuel Gas Code (2024 edition)
- International Property Maintenance Code (2024 edition)
- National Electric Code (2023 edition)
The above code adoption may include minor amendments and the codes shall become effective March 1, 2026. Any permit applications submitted after March 1, 2026, the above codes shall apply.
The Building Division is instrumental in coordinating with other Village departments in the implementation of projects throughout the Village. The department also issues contractors licenses and semi-annual elevator inspection certificates. In addition, staff provides assistance to the Board of Building Appeals, Board of Zoning Appeals, Electrical Commission and other commissions as requested.
