Paving Wednesday July 29

Weather depending, the contractor will pave the first layer of asphalt on Deerfield Road between Wilmot Road and the Metra underpass on Wednesday July 29th. In an effort to minimize traffic disruptions during the day, this work will begin at 4am.
The early start will enable to Contractor to complete paving within the vicinity of Chestnut Street and the underpass before the morning commute. Due to the narrow width of Deerfield Road near the underpass, the early morning work will require a full traffic detour between the hours of 4am and 7am. It is anticipated that the contractor will complete the paving by the end of the day.

This work will require the use of flaggers to direct traffic around the paving operation and will result in major traffic disruptions. Motorists are encouraged to utilize alternate routes if possible to avoid delays during their commute.

Prior to the paving, the contractor is required to install fresh oil to the existing pavement. This work will occur the night before the paving operation. “Fresh Oil” signs will be installed throughout the time period when asphalt paving will occur. The use of fresh oil helps different layers of asphalt to adhere to one another providing a longer lasting final product. Residents should be mindful of driving through fresh oil.
If motorists must drive through fresh oil, please do so slowly. Driving at higher speeds through fresh oil may cause the material to adhere to the undercarriage and/or fenders of the car, which can be difficult and costly to remove.

The Village would like to remind all motorists to be alert while driving through the construction zone as traffic patterns and closures may change. The Village appreciates your effort in helping to complete this improvement. If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact the Village of Deerfield Engineering Department at 847-317-2490 and request to speak to someone regarding this project.

Work Completed
Through June and early July, the contractor completed the required underground repairs and the replacement of roadway curbs and sidewalks. Early this week, the contractor completed the removal of the existing pavement surface from the Metra viaduct to Wilmot Road.

Anticipated Upcoming Work
This week, the contractor will begin the necessary roadway patching which will require traffic control around these patches. There are a few patches that require repair within the Chestnut intersection. This area will be reduced to 2 lanes of traffic through the intersection and at times, will require flagging of traffic through the work area.  This work will cause delays in traffic and the Village recommends using alternate routes if possible.

Over the course of the next month, the contractor will work diligently to complete the project prior to the opening of school. This may include working on Saturdays to help meet the schedule.

The Village would like to remind all motorists to be alert while driving through the construction zone as traffic patterns and closures may change. The Village appreciates your effort in helping to complete this improvement. If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact the Village of Deerfield Engineering Department at 847-317-2490 and request to speak with someone regarding the Project.

FLAGGERDeerfield Road Resurfacing Project:

Work on Deerfield Road between the Metra underpass and Wilmot Road will start June 8. This work will be performed under daytime lane closures utilizing traffic control flaggers, that will result in delays to motorists.

This project was scheduled to coincide with a Lake County project on Deerfield Road from Wilmot Road into Riverwood. The intention is to align these projects to not only receive better bid pricing, but also to coordinate the construction to minimize traffic disruptions.
