Construction Update – 7/17/2025

On the east end near Waukegan Road, the contractor has completed installation of the new concrete sidewalk and curb. Paving of the first layer of asphalt is scheduled for next week. Once that is complete, the contractor will begin exposing underground utility structures, backfilling parkways, and performing general site cleanup. The final layer of asphalt will be applied later in the year to minimize potential issues from summer heat and heavy construction traffic.

Between Prairie Avenue and the bridge, work continues on completing the remaining water main services and connections. After the water-related tasks are finished, the contractor will move on to installing the large-diameter storm sewer near the bridge. Roadway excavation will then begin in preparation for new curbs and pavement.

Starting next week, the contractor will also begin preparing the roadway between Prairie Avenue and Chestnut Street for upcoming utility work. This process includes converting the current pavement into gravel and recompacting it to support vehicle traffic—similar to previous sections of the project. This approach will allow utility work to proceed more efficiently.
