Sidewalk Signs

The Village is now permitting sidewalk signs (i.e. A-framed signs) for commercial businesses in the C-1 through C-4 Zoning Districts and certain public entities. These types of signs were requested by business and shopping center owners as a way to promote daily sales and special events. In order to maintain public safety and appearance of the Village, the following regulations were adopted:

Number:

  • 1 sidewalk sign per ground floor business
  • Businesses with drive-thru or drive aisle are allowed 1 additional sign
  • Public lands are allowed a second sign if there is a second entrance

Location:

  • Along building frontage within 15 feet of the entrance
  • Needs to be within the property line with a 36-inch-wide path maintained
  • May not obstruct or encroach into a parking space or drive-aisle

Design:

  • 6 SF/face maximum area
  • 4 feet maximum height 
  • Metal & wood frame signs only (no plastic)
  • No letter boards, flashing or moving parts, bright lights or movement of any kind.
  • No attention-grabbing devices (i.e. balloons) attached to the sign
  • Self-supporting signs only and cannot use weighted bases, weights, sandbags, etc.
