Deerfield Art Festival Returns May 31 - June 1

Start the summer season with art, music and family fun at the Deerfield Art Festival, taking place this Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day on Park Avenue in downtown Deerfield.

This free, family-friendly event will feature more than 80 juried artists showcasing and selling their one-of-a-kind works, including paintings, photography, ceramics, furniture, jewelry, wood, fiber and more. Visitors can also enjoy live music, on-site painting classes, selfie stations and a variety of kids activities, including the popular “Kids Friendly Tents,” where artists invite children to learn more about the art-making process.

Festival food will be available on-site, with several local restaurants located just steps away from the artist booths.

Junior Police Academy Enrollment Now Open

The Deerfield Police Department is excited to announce the return of its Junior Police Academy, taking place August 4–8. This unique program gives middle-school-aged students a behind-the-scenes look at the world of law enforcement while building positive connections with Deerfield Police Officers. Through a mix of engaging instruction and hands-on activities, participants will explore various aspects of police work and public safety. The program emphasizes leadership, service, physical fitness, and safety, offering valuable insight into the responsibilities of law enforcement professionals. All participants will receive an official Junior Police Academy T-shirt.

There will be two daily sessions, each running Monday through Friday:

  • Morning Session: 9 – 11:30 a.m.
  • Afternoon Session: 1 – 3:30 p.m.

Each session is limited to 10 participants, for a total of 20 spots. Registration is now open and will close once both sessions are full. After registering, participants will receive a confirmation email with session details. The program is FREE and open to Deerfield residents ages 10–13 at the time of the Academy. The Deerfield Police Department reserves the right to deny enrollment at its discretion.

Electronics Recycling Event – Saturday, June 7

The Village of Deerfield will host an Electronics Recycling Event on Saturday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Public Works Facility, 465 Elm Street. This is a great opportunity for residents to responsibly dispose of unwanted electronics.

Residents can simply drive up, open their trunk and let Public Works take the electronics to the on-site dumpsters provided by LRS.

Accepted e-waste items include:

  • Cable/Satellite Receivers
  • Cell Phones
  • Computers (desktops, laptops, tablets)
  • Digital Converter Boxes
  • DVD Players and Recorders
  • Fax Machines
  • Keyboards and Computer Mice
  • MP3 Players (iPods)
  • Printers and Scanners
  • Small Scale Servers
  • TVs and Monitors
  • Video Game Consoles
  • VCRs

Items NOT accepted:
Large appliances, air conditioners, ballasts, bare CRT tubes, capacitors, dehumidifiers, household batteries (AA, AAA, D, C, Lithium), light bulbs, liquids, microwaves, salvaged units, smoke detectors, vacuum cleaners, VHS cassette tapes, and any medical or biohazard-related equipment.

Deerfield Historic Village Now Open on Sundays

The Deerfield Area Historical Society offers free tours on Sundays, from 2 to 4 p.m., June through September. Located at the corner of Kipling Place and Deerfield Road, the Historic Village features several restored 19th-century buildings, including the oldest building in Lake County and a one-room schoolhouse that has been a favorite of children for many years. Admission is free. 

Family friendly events for all ages include: 

  • June 8 – Wheels Through Time: Explore vintage cars, bicycles, buggies, cars and more. 
  • June 22 – Civil War Living History: Reenactor, displays and get an old-time photo taken.
