Village Hosts Paper Shredding Event April 19

The Village and Lakeshore Recycling will host a free residential paper shredding event on Saturday, April 19, at the Public Works facility, 465 Elm Street, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The paper will be shredded on site. Participants are limited to three bankers boxes or paper bags per vehicle. Residential only, please no businesses.

Bagged Yard Waste Collection Resumes April 1

LRS will resume bagged yard waste collection on April 1. All yard waste must be placed in a proper receptacle not to exceed 50 pounds. Residents may use their compost cart, paper kraft bags and user-owned cans clearly marked as “Yard Waste.” LRS will also take bundles of sticks, twigs and branches that are no more than 4’ in length and 18” in diameter. Any extra yard waste that is placed in a container other than the compost cart will require a yard waste sticker which may be purchased at Village Hall and select local retailers for $3.33.

The Village is looking for passionate residents to serve on the:

  • Cemetery Commission – Help preserve Deerfield’s historic cemetery.
  • Family Days Commission – Plan the Village’s biggest celebration on July 3 and 4!
  • Fine Arts Commission – Bring more creativity to our community.
  • Volunteer Engagement Commission – Connect residents with ways to make a difference.

April 1 Consolidated Election, Early Voting

The Consolidated Election will be held Tuesday, April 1, for election of municipal offices, library trustees, park district commissioners, school board members and more.

On Election Day, polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Residents can find their designated Election Day polling place at the County’s website LakeVoterPower.info.

Early voting runs March 17 - 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Deerspring Pool, located at 200 Deerfield Road, is an early voting site.

Safe Screens Parent Workshop Series

The Deerfield Police Department is excited to offer a free Safe Screens Parent Workshop Series for Deerfield residents to help you navigate your child's digital world safely! Each of the four sessions are hosted by School Resource Officer Lauren Maldonado and Digital Forensics Expert Sergeant Trevor Salato and will cover a different topic to give you the tools needed to protect your child online. 

The sessions will be held in the Deerfield Village Hall Council Chambers from 6-7:30 p.m. on four separate evenings in April and May.

Workshop Dates and Topics:

  • April 17 - Parental Controls: Learn how to set up time limits, content restrictions and privacy settings.
  • May 1 - Snapchat Safety: Tips to manage contacts, privacy and prevent inappropriate content.
  • May 15 - TikTok & Instagram Safety: Keep your child safe from online risks with monitoring tools.
  • May 29 - Minecraft, Roblox & Other Chat Apps: Protect your child from unapproved contacts and ensure a safe gaming experience.
