Storm, Flooding Update 4

Water Levels Dropping
Lake County reports that flood levels in Deerfield have crested along the Middle Fork and levels continue to drop. Village staff is continuing to monitor water levels in the Village, as well as both upstream and downstream. 

Lake Cook Road Closed East of Waukegan
Lake Cook Road remains impassable in Northbrook due to flooding along the Middle Fork of the North Branch of the Chicago River. Only local traffic is allowed east of Waukegan Road.The road closure is expected to remain in effect overnight. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes. Many roads in the region remain closed and some new ones may become impassable due to the Des Plaines River continuing to rise. Cleanup Kits
The Village has received a limited number of cleanup kits from the Lake County Emergency Management Office. They are available at the Deerfield Police Department on a first-come, first-serve basis at the 24-hour Police Dispatch desk.

Kits include:

  • 5-gallon bucket
  • Mop
  • Bleach
  • Garbage bags
  • Sponge
  • Brush/squeegee
  • Latex gloves


Brush Pick Up
Starting next week, Public Works will collect any brush or limbs that are placed along the parkway.

Garbage Collection
Residents can call Waste Management customer service at 800.796.9696 to request a special collection for damaged items. The Village has unlimited pickup on regular garbage days, however items and bags must weigh under 50 pounds. Residents are advised to follow regular collection rules, including the 50-pound weight restrictions on bags or items, carpet should be cut to four feet in length and avoid construction material. For more information, visit Waste Management's Deerfield-specific website or call the customer service line.
