Leaf Collection Underway

Leaf collection was paused Monday through Wednesday due to snow, but Public Works resumed collection Thursday morning. Crews started with Monday’s route and will make a continuous pass through the entire Village until collection is complete, which will likely extend into Saturday.

The Village’s annual leaf collection program provides residents with an alternative for disposal of their autumn leaves.

Residents who do not mulch or bag their leaves may rake leaves to the curb or carriage walk before their scheduled pickup day.

The Village began collecting leaves on October 27 this year and will continue this service through November 26.

Public Works Department crews will make one pass by all homes in the Village each week during the five-week program. The southeast quadrant is collected Mondays, southwest Tuesdays, northeast Wednesdays and the northwest on Thursdays.

We ask that you do not put out leaves more than one day prior to your scheduled pickup day. Leaves should be raked in a long, neat row that does not exceed five feet in width.

They should be raked as close to the curb as possible, so long as they are not placed in the street or on top of the carriage walks or sidewalk, as this causes safety hazards. If you have landscapers, please direct them to abide by the Village’s leaf collection guidelines.

Crews will not follow the normal collection schedule during the week of Thanksgiving, but will still service every street in the Village. Therefore, it’s important to have your leaves out by Monday morning of this particular week.

Hazel Avenue and Chestnut Street Intersection Closure

As part of the Hazel Avenue Infrastructure Project, the contractor will be installing a new water main and storm sewer through the Hazel Avenue and Chestnut Street intersection. This work will require daytime closures of the intersection beginning Friday, November 14, and is expected to be completed by Wednesday, November 19.

To maintain safe two-way traffic along the detour routes, no parking signs will be posted during daytime work hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parking will be allowed during evening hours.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete these important infrastructure improvements. This closure allows the contractor to efficiently complete underground utility work in this area and minimize the overall duration of the project.

'Cram a Cruiser' Nov. 22

The Deerfield Police Department invites you to help “Cram A Cruiser” with donations for our veterans this holiday season. Stop by Jewel at 16 S. Waukegan Road on Saturday, November 22, 2025, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Officers and volunteers will be on hand to collect contributions benefiting the Midwest Veterans Closet, a local nonprofit serving veterans and their families across our region.

Your generosity makes a direct impact. Consider donating items that help veterans gear up for winter and the holidays, such as:

  • Nonperishable food (canned proteins, soups, shelf-stable meals, pasta, rice)
  • New cold‑weather essentials (hats, gloves, socks, scarves)
  • Personal care and household items (toiletries, cleaning supplies, paper goods)
  • Gift cards for groceries or other essentials

For the most up‑to‑date list of needed items, visit the Midwest Veterans Closet website.

Every bag, box and bundle helps to fill a squad car with support — and fills a vital need for our veteran community. Bring a friend, spread the word and let’s show our veterans that Deerfield has their back. Remember, giving is the reason for the season.
