Field of Honor: Nov. 7-11

From November 7 to November 11, 2025, the Village of Deerfield invites residents to experience a breathtaking display of 500 United States flags at Jewett Park.

This moving tribute, part of the national Field of Honor event, will serve as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by our veterans and active-duty service members and is organized by the Village, Deerfield Police Department, Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District, Deerfield Public Library, Deerfield Park District and Deerfield American Legion Post 738.

Each flag in this solemn display represents an individual and carries a unique story. Residents have the opportunity to sponsor a flag in honor of a veteran, active-duty military member or another personal hero.

This year’s “Honoring Our Veterans” display is made possible through the generosity of sponsors, donors and dedicated volunteers.

Proceeds will benefit Midwest Veterans Closet and Lake County Honor Flight, organizations that support and uplift those who have served.

To find more information, to sponsor a flag or become a corporate sponsor, visit the event website or contact Hannah Kroll at hkroll@deerfield.il.us or 847.719.7515.

Volunteer for a Village Commission

The Village is seeking passionate residents for open seats on the Sustainability Commission, Family Days Commission, Cable & Telecommunications Commission and Community Relations Commission. If you care about local sustainability, love planning community traditions, have an interest in media and technology or want to strengthen inclusion and belonging, we want to hear from you.

What to expect: most commissions meet monthly, collaborate with Village staff and work on projects that make a visible impact in our community. Prior board experience isn’t required — just your time, ideas and commitment to Deerfield. Apply online by October 30.

Fall Leaf Collection Starts October 27

The Village’s annual leaf collection program provides residents with an alternate way to dispose of their leaves. Residents who do not mulch or bag their leaves may rake them to the curb or carriage walk edge the night before their scheduled pickup.

Beginning the week of October 27 and continuing through November 26, Public Works Department crews will make one pass by each house in the Village every week during the five-week program.

See the following guidelines and reminders for leaf pickup:

  • Rake leaves into piles no greater than five feet in width.
  • Do not rake leaves into the streets, sidewalks or carriage walks.
  • Do not put out leaves more than one day prior to pickup day.
  • Do not park on the street the day of your pickup.
  • Do not rake grass clippings, sticks, rocks, branches or mud to the curb with your leaves.
  • Inclement weather may delay pickups, but crews will make at least five trips through each neighborhood over the course of the program.
  • Any leaves remaining after the program has ended can be placed in the compost bin for collection.
  • If you have a landscaper, please familiarize them with these regulations.
