Deerfield Family Days

Deerfield Family Days will kick off with another two days of fun July 3rd and 4th.

Join family and friends for a holiday filled with fun and entertainment!

Festivities begin on Thursday, July 3, at 5:30 p.m. at Shepard Park. The night will be filled with live music, food, drinks, children’s activities and the fireworks display starting at approximately 9:15 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to walk or bike to Shepard Park for the July 3 fireworks. If you plan to drive, please note that parking will not be allowed on some streets and limited to one side of the street in many locations. Accessible parking is available at Shepard Middle School. Check out the parking map for more details.

On Friday, July 4, the celebration continues at Jewett Park with a full lineup of activities. Start your morning with the Rotary 5K Race and then head to Breakfast in the Park, hosted by the Deerfield Lions Club. The day also includes a dog show, children’s activities and rides, bike parade at the Rosemary Terrace lot, a pie eating contest, bingo and rides. Don’t miss the Arts & Crafts Fair and explore booths filled with handcrafted treasures including jewelry, woodworking, original artwork and prints and so much more. New this year, bingo will be held at the Jewett Park Pavilion from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and again from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Two cards for $5 and five cards for $10. Cash only, please.

The Fourth of July Parade steps off at noon from Deerspring Pool, travels west on Deerfield Road, and ends at Jewett Park via Park Avenue. This year’s Parade Marshall is lifelong resident Victoria Street. Victoria has made significant contributions to Deerfield including her 25 years of service as Executive Director of the DBR Chamber of Commerce.

Fireworks Safety Tips

The best way to enjoy fireworks will be at the Deerfield Family Days professional display at dusk on July 3rd at Shepard Park. The use of fireworks in Deerfield is significantly restricted by Village Ordinance.

Fireworks are dangerous and unpredictable by nature and discharging of fireworks (including firecrackers, bottle rockets and Roman candles) is a violation of State law and Village ordinances. Also, keep in mind that backyard fireworks displays can be a nuisance to your neighbors, especially those with young children, pets and people living with PTSD and sensory sensitivities. The Deerfield Police Department enforces the local ordinance and State law where applicable.

Mosquitoes: Fight the Bite

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) encourages the public to "Fight the Bite" by practicing the three "R's" – Reduce, Repel, and Report.

REDUCE - make sure doors and windows have tight-fitting screens. Repair or replace screens that have tears or other openings. Try to keep doors and windows shut. Eliminate, or refresh each week, all sources of standing water where mosquitoes can breed, including water in bird baths, ponds, flowerpots, wading pools, old tires, and any other containers.

REPEL - when outdoors, wear shoes and socks, long pants and a light-colored, long-sleeved shirt, and apply an EPA-registered insect repellent that contains DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus, IR 3535, para-menthane-diol (PMD), or 2-undecanone according to label instructions. Consult a physician before using repellents on infants.

REPORT – report locations where you see water sitting stagnant for more than a week such as roadside ditches, flooded yards, and similar locations that may produce mosquitoes.

Residents can use the Clarke Portal/Resident Hotline to report standing water or nuisance mosquito activity online without needing to log in. Additionally, you can sign up to receive advance treatment notifications for adult mosquito control applications via email or text.
