2024 Deerfield Public Art Program Call for Artists

The Deerfield Public Art Program is soliciting artwork loans from artists to display in public places over the next year. Artists must be willing to loan works of art for public display for up to one year. The Deerfield Fine Arts Commission will review artwork proposals submitted by artists interested in having their works displayed in the community as part of this public art initiative.

The program is soliciting paintings, murals, drawings, and other pieces that could be displayed in Village Hall, Public Works, Deerfield Park District facilities, the Deerfield Public Library and the sculpture park at the corner of Waukegan and Deerfield Roads.

This is the ninth call for artists for the public art program, which has featured more than 100 pieces from local, regional and national artists.

The Deerfield Public Art Program is open to all visual artists who meet the following criteria:

  • Artists who are professional and of serious intent.
  • Artists working in any permanent media.
  • Art students working with practicing artists/teachers may be considered.
  • Artists must have knowledge of public art. While previous experience in public art is not required, artists should be knowledgeable of materials, techniques, and public art processes.
  • Appropriateness of an artist’s work for public display. (Appropriateness in terms of scale, material, content and placement.)
  • All selected artwork must be delivered to the village “ready-to-hang” for immediate display.

The primary goal of the Deerfield Public Art Program is to publicly display in very visible and accessible locations works of art created by local, regional, national and international artists.

Prospective artists are invited to propose an artwork for display.

The specific artwork selected for display will be reviewed via jury process. The Fine Arts Commission is responsible for reviewing artwork submissions and making a final recommendation to the Village Manager’s Office regarding final artwork selections.

Artists may submit up to three pieces of art for consideration. Artists must submit a completed application packet for each individual artwork being submitted. The deadline for submissions is April 12, 2024. Applications are available on the Village’s website.

The Fine Arts Commission will host a community open house to showcase the selected pieces on Tuesday, May 21, at the Deerfield Public Library, 920 Waukegan Road, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Celebrate Women's History Month

Women's History Month

The Village of Deerfield Community Relations Commission is looking to honor Women's History Month in March by highlighting Deerfield artists of all ages and the women who inspired them. Celebrate trailblazing women in the arts with your own amazing artwork featured on the Village website.

Artists, sculptors, photographers, fashion designers, poets, etc. are invited to showcase their creativity and the historic women who have inspired them.

Examples: A mannequin wearing a fashion design created by a DHS student whose inspiration is Coco Chanel, the fashion designer who freed women from corsets. Or, a painting by a local artist who was inspired by the strength of Georgia O’Keeffe, the trailblazing painter of the American Southwest.

Submission deadline is March 22. The application is available online.

The Deerfield Public Library has also compiled a list of resources to help celebrate and recognize women’s contributions to history, culture and society.
