A Message from Mayor Shapiro

Happy Thanksgiving, Deerfield!

We have so much to be thankful for this year as we return to a more normal holiday season. After last year’s Thanksgiving via Zoom, it is nice to get back to figuring out who is bringing the pumpkin pie.

But Thanksgiving is more than just turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing. It’s about connecting with family and friends to focus on our shared blessings. I hope you all find a way to safely reach out to those you love and reflect on the good things in your life. To be on the safe side, take a moment to review the CDC’s tips for safer ways to celebrate or use your time off to book a booster shot at www.vaccine.org.

Please join us tomorrow, November 24, for our Downtown Lighting Ceremony at Deerfield Village Center at 4 p.m. I’ll flip the switch at 5 p.m. to light up downtown. We host this event with the DBR Chamber of Commerce to start the holiday season as a community and remind residents to shop local whenever possible.

Let's Give Thanks

Optimist Club Tree Lot

Optimist Club Tree Sale Returns

The Deerfield Optimist Club will again be selling Christmas trees, wreaths and roping/tree garland at Jewett Park this year starting this Friday, November 26, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hazel Avenue parking lot.

Regular hours of operation are Mondays through Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m.

The tree lot is located at the north end of Jewett Park, adjacent to the Hazel Avenue Parking lot. Look for our lights and banners on Hazel Avenue. Deliveries are available. The trees all come from Wisconsin or Quebec, Canada. Available varieties include Fraser Fir, Balsam Fir and Canaan Fir as well as table top Spruce.

Proceeds from the Christmas tree sales allow the Optimist Club to fund Deerfield area programs annually.  These include the Essay Contest for middle school students, scholarships for high school seniors and the Service Recognition Award for high school students.  In addition, the Club supports area programs such as Deerfield High School Warriors Helping Warriors, the Deerfield Park District Foundation, the After Prom Party, D.A.R.E., the West Deerfield Township Holiday Wish program, the Food Pantry and Elyssa's Mission (prevention of teen suicide).
