COVID-19 Case Increase in Illinois and Lake County

The Illinois Department of Public Health today announced 128 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) across Illinois.

Currently, IDPH is reporting 288 cases in 17 counties in Illinois. Cases have occurred in ages 9 to 99. Cases by county can be found on the IDPH website, as well as a list of local health departments who will have the most up to date information. As of March 18, 2020, at 3 p.m., Lake County reported 22 positive cases.

Today, Governor JB Pritzker announced the creation of a centralized state website detailing the state’s evolving response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The website includes news, prevention information, preparation efforts, FAQs, resources and more information about coronavirus. The state’s new website is available here. The Village continues to work with representatives of our sister governments to coordinate local response. Please continue to stay home if possible and limit social interaction.

West Deerfield Township Asks for Donations for Food Pantry

West Deerfield Township reports they are seeing an increase in the number of clients using the food pantry. As a result, they are asking for monetary donations and gift cards to grocery stores. For more information and to make an on-line donation, click here.

Tips for calling 9-1-1 to Protect First Responders

Protecting our first responders is paramount during the COVID-19 outbreak. Our 9-1-1 dispatchers will be asking the following questions of any caller requesting a service that requires face-to-face contact.

Does anyone that will be on scene when Officers arrive, have a fever and/or respiratory symptoms?
Has anyone on scene recently traveled foreign or domestic?
Has anyone been recently exposed to an individual known to have or suspected of having COVID-19?
Has anyone on-scene tested positive for COVID-19?

We are asking our residents to review these questions with everyone in their household now. Emergencies can happen quickly and be disorienting. By knowing the answers now it will be easier to recall in case of emergency. Please respond honestly to the questions, as they help our first responders take extra personal protective equipment to avoid exposure when they respond.

Whole Foods Changes Hours to Provide Seniors-Only Option

Whole Foods Market Deerfield will temporarily be changing its hours for the general public to opening at 9 a.m. and closing at 8 p.m. The store will be opening its doors at 8 a.m. for senior citizens over the age of 60. Proof of age will be required for entry from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Waste Management Call Center Temporarily Down

Waste Management is continuing to provide trash and recycling collection service. However, with the health and well-being of our community in mind, Waste Management has announced the temporary closure of their residential call centers to promote social distancing among call center employees. Waste Management is actively establishing remote operations for its call center employees to re-establish call center operations as soon as possible. Again, the suspension of call center availability has no impact to your trash and recycling collection service.
