Operation Stand Down: Donate Coats to Help Veterans

Help Serve Those Who Have Served Us

With assistance from both the Deerfield High School and Highland Park High School, please join the Deerfield Police Department in “Operation Stand Down.” Operation Stand Down is a program started by the Lake County Veterans Assistance Commission which benefits local homeless, unemployed and at risk veterans and their family in Lake County. If you would like to donate new or gently used coats/gloves (adult and children sizes) please see the details below:
·         Who does it benefit? Veterans and their families in Lake County who are in need of assistance. Per the Illinois Department of Employment Security, Lake County has approximately 4500 unemployed veterans. Over 782 veterans are on food stamps and considered “at risk.” At any given time, Lake County has a homeless veteran’s population that fluctuates between 60-100.
·         How does Operation Stand Down benefit veterans? All new/gently used coats received will be given to veterans (and their families) who are in need. The unclaimed coats will be collected by the Salvation Army who, in return, will make a donation to the Veterans Assistance Commission for use by veterans when needing future assistance. Future assistance includes food stamps, medical and dental assessment, haircuts, and referrals to other counseling services.
·         What do I need to do to help? Donate new or gently used coats/gloves at:
1) The Deerfield Police Department, or
2) Coats and gloves will be collected on September 26, 2014 at the Deerfield High School vs. Highland Park High School football game at Highland Park High School (1959 Waukegan Road, Deerfield, IL)
·         Questions? Comments? Concerns? Contact Sgt. Cachola of the Deerfield Police Department (847-945-8636 or
