Save-the-Date: 7th Annual Festival of Fine Arts

Ninety artisans' works including fiber art by Joan M. Ladendorf, acrylic paintings by Penelope Osio-Brown, mixed media sculptures by Skeeter Aschinger, jewelry by John & Christine Strobel and stone and wood Shona sculptures by Peter Rujawa, from Zimbabwe, will line the aisles of the Deerfield Festival of Fine Arts, to be held May 30 & 31 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in downtown Deerfield (Park Avenue and Deerfield Road). Sponsored in part by the Village of Deerfield Fine Arts Commission, the weekend is a myriad of artistry, fun and food that inspires visitors from all over Chicagoland and elsewhere.

Now in its 7th year, the Deerfield Festival of Fine Arts is a notable community event featuring artists from the area and across the country. All art media will be represented, including acrylic, oil and watercolor painting, glass, jewelry, ceramics, fiber, sculpture, mixed media, furniture, printmaking, photography, stone and wood. An internationally diverse food selection will be available to visitors, in addition to live musical entertainment all weekend. Notable musicians include Edgar Gabriel (jazz/string fusion), Kraig Kenning (award winning slide guitarist), and Amanda Crumley (jazz vocalist with band). Other entertainers are Belladonna Blues (blues), the Kevin Lucas Orchestra (marimba) and lo/fi pioneer (funk/jazz/reggae). The Saturday and Sunday event is free and open to the public.

The weekend will kick-off with a preview party co-sponsored by the Village and the DBR Chamber of Commerce at Deerfield Village Hall, Friday, May 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tickets are required for this event and only those who are 21 or older may attend. Tickets are $10/each and can be obtained from Village Hall at 847.945.5000. Tickets include wine and a appetizers.

The Deerfield Fine Arts Commission acts in an advisory capacity for the Mayor and Board of Trustees and was created to help to showcase the arts and act as a clearinghouse for the arts in the Deerfield community.
