Village of Deerfield
Village Snow Plow Operations

Deerfield Public Works Ready for Winter Weather

Snow & Ice Control

Prompt removal of snow is important in the Village of Deerfield. Our first priority is to keep all main streets open for emergency vehicles and residential use. Once this has been accomplished, our Street Division then plows residential streets, followed by dead-end streets and cul-de-sacs, and finally alleyways.

After an accumulation of 2 inches of snow, parking is prohibited on any street for a period of 24 hours after the snow has stopped falling. If snow removal is still needed after that period, parking is prohibited until operations are completed.

We ask all residents to help in the effort and not clear their driveways by returning snow to the street. Our objective is to maintain a safe and snow-free road system.

For more information, contact the Public Works Department at 847-317-7245.

Village Ordinance Section 22-71. No Parking; Snow Removal: (Ordinance 0-79-78, 12-3-1979)

Sidewalk Snow Removal

As part of the 2016 revised sidewalk snow clearing program, the Public Works Department clears 16.4 miles of sidewalk throughout the Village. The new snow clearing route focuses on strategically important locations that includes the sidewalks along major thoroughfares such as Deerfield, Waukegan and Lake Cook Roads. The program also concentrates on the sidewalks around schools, the downtown shopping district and Metra parking lots.

The Village asks all residents to please be considerate of pedestrians and school children by clearing sidewalks of snow and ice. For additional information, contact the Public Works Department at 847-317-7245.

Village Begins Preparations, Hiring for Partial Special Census

The new AMLI and Woodview luxury apartment developments completed construction in November 2015, and January 2016, respectively. With their opening, the estimated increase to the Village’s population is 798 residents. This is noteworthy since the Village receives State-shared-municipal-revenues on a per capita basis, e.g. Income, Use, and Motor Fuel Taxes. Village staff investigated the feasibility of a Partial Special Census to document the population increase in these two locations and qualify for the per-capita-shared-revenues sooner than would otherwise be the case.

The Village is working closely with the U.S. Census Bureau to begin the official Partial Special Census count by late January. In order to meet this goal, local residents are needed to work as enumerators, crew leaders, and clerical staff. Enumerators will visit AMLI and Woodview households and collect a few facts about each member such as name, age, and relationship to the householder. Enumerators are paid $15.18 per hour, clerical staff $12.18 per hour, and the crew leader $16.18, plus mileage and paid training.

To be considered for temporary Census employment, review the job description fact sheet to determine if you meet basic eligibility requirements. Then submit a completed job application to Dan Elsass, Human Resource Coordinator, at Village Hall, 850 Waukegan Road, Deerfield, IL 60015 no later than December 15, 2016. The job description fact sheet and job application can be viewed online by visiting http://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/specialcensus/employment.html or on the Village’s website at http://www.deerfield.il.us/jobs.aspx. Paper copies of both documents can also be picked up at Village Hall.

Selected applicants will be contacted just prior to the Partial Special Census to take a job-related test to further determine suitability for Census employment. The job description fact sheet and application also includes information about identification documents you need to bring to the testing session. If selected, applicants will be invited to attend a training class and then given a work assignment that lasts approximately 2 to 4 weeks.

For more information, contact the Village Manager’s Office at 847.719.7400 or visit www.deerfield.il.us.
