A Message from Mayor Harriet Rosenthal: STAY HOME- SAVE LIVES

Photo Mayor RosenthalThe warm beautiful weather on Wednesday was eye-opening.  The Police Department received numerous calls of young people congregating.  While we know this is tempting for all of us, it just can’t happen.  That means no basketball, no soccer, no contact sports at all, no hanging out with friends on driveways or patios, and no using playground equipment.  If you or your children are participating in any way, you could be the cause of someone’s illness, or worse yet someone’s death.  I know no one wants to take on that responsibility, so social distancing is a must.

Our Police Officers are doing everything they can to respond to calls of groups congregating, but understand calls often have to be prioritized.  If you want to report an infraction you are witnessing, please call the non-emergency number 847-945-8636.  Our officers have the authority, under the municipal and state statute, to issue tickets for violations.  I would hope these steps are not necessary and everyone uses their best judgement in consideration of others, including first responders.

During these stressful and unprecedented times, we are all having to change behavior.  Personally, I am very sad that I have yet to see my grandchildren since they came home from college, and I know each of you are experiencing your own disappointments and hardships.

We are all in this together and together by doing the right thing we can flatten the curve.
