Brierhill Paving & Signage - 9/28/2017

Brierhill Road Project Construction Update – 9/28/2017



As previously communicated, the paving of the final layer of asphalt will take place this Sunday night (10/1) into Monday morning. This night work is in an effort to minimize any further impacts to residents and daily traffic. The contractor will clean the roadway and spray the prime/tack coat onto the roadway Sunday night in preparation of the paving to begin around midnight. The paving is anticipated to last 5-6 hours and as long as nothing goes awry, the roadway should be opened to traffic around 6am. Residents are asked to be home by 9pm Sunday night if possible.

In addition to the noises (back up alarms, trucks, equipment) from the paving operation, the contractor will also be required to use additional lights to help illuminate the roadway as there are no street lights. Hopefully these inconveniences are minimal.



The Village is aware that many residents have concerns/questions regarding the new signs that were installed last week. The Village met with a few residents this week to develop a plan to alleviate many of these concerns. The goal of this meeting was to find an acceptable middle ground when considering both the safety of the motorists and the aesthetics of the roadway. Below is a list of revisions to the new signs.

First stretch through the first curve

-         No Outlet sign at the entrance to be removed from the back side of the stop sign (also a Lake County requirement) and placed on a new pole on the west side of the road. In its current location, this sign cannot be seen by vehicles coming from the west.

-         Children at play sign to remain.

-         15 mph SB (southbound) and NB (northbound) speed limit signs to be removed.

-         15 mph advisory sign (yellow) under ‘S’ curve sign to be replaced with 15mph speed limit sign (white). This will match the sign configuration that was previously there.

-         Of the 5 chevron (arrow) signs for SB traffic, only 3 will remain to match what previously existed. Also, signs will be lowered.

-          All chevron signs facing the east for WB traffic will be removed.

-          No double yellow striping will take place along this curve.


Second curve through the south end

-         All west facing chevron signs for EB traffic to be removed.

-         Of the 8 chevron signs for NB traffic, only 3 to remain and they will be lowered. These 3 signs will be placed near/in front of the culvert, the utility pole, and guy wire.

-         The ‘S’ curve sign south of the second curve will remain but the 15mph advisory speed (yellow) sign will be removed. This sign will also be switched out for a slightly smaller one.

-         The two speed limit signs (white) south of the second curve will remain.

-         No double yellow striping will take place along this curve.
